Tattoo removal has come a long way, thanks to the groundbreaking technology of the PicoSure® laser. Without a doubt, it is the most significant technological advance in laser tattoo removal in 20 years. And, better technology means more efficient ink removal, which translates to fewer treatments, and ultimately, lower cost.
As you may know, tattoos are removed through the use of lasers. Lasers work by emitting short pulses of intense light that pass through the top layers of the skin to where the ink has been absorbed. The laser light breaks the ink apart into miniscule particles, and the body absorbs and eliminates the particles through its natural processes.
The PicoSure® laser works by emitting ultra-short pulses (one trillionth of a second, or a picosecond) that hit the ink, shattering it into tiny dust-like particles. Since the particles are so small, they are more readily absorbed by the body and eliminated through natural processes.

Until recently, the gold standard in tattoo removal was the Q-Switched laser, which uses thermal energy to heat up and break apart the ink particles. The problem with Q-Switched technology, though, is that it’s not nearly as effective as the newer technology – the PicoSure laser.
PicoSure is the most effective tattoo removal technology available today. Why? Because it uses pico-second technology (vs. the older nano-technology) which is much more effective, with better ink removal (which means fewer treatments), faster recovery time, less pain, and little to no residual scarring or discoloration to the surrounding skin.
Without a doubt, the PicoSure laser the most significant technological advance in laser tattoo removal in 20 years. A non-surgical, non-invasive treatment, PicoSure doesn’t generate heat like the older technology, so the chance for scarring is much less than the Q-Switched. The result is faster and more complete clearance, fewer treatments, better results, less pain, and quicker recovery time. Even hard-to-remove colors such as blue and green have met their match with PicoSure.
