If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and felt that your pores lean a bit on the large side, you aren’t alone. The truth is that without Photoshop, most faces aren’t able to achieve the porcelain doll-like skin you see in magazines. Don’t lose hope, though! Where there’s a will, there’s a way to make enlarged pores appear smaller and your complexion more refined.
Here are a few easy tips to help you out that can be easily integrated into your daily routine.
- Exfoliate your skin!
Exfoliating is important because it removes dead skin cells from the upper layer of your skin, brightening your skin texture and unclogging your pores. Try to exfoliate your skin at least twice a week. Using an exfoliator that feels coarse but not too gritty can get rid of the debris clogging your pores. Popular exfoliators include scrubs and cleansers, washcloths with a slightly rough surface, and rotating scrub brushes. People with sensitive skin should lean more toward gentle exfoliating products.
- Tone it up!
Using a toner daily helps tighten the skin on your face, including your pores. Use a toner after washing your face and removing any makeup from the previous day (which really should go without saying). This helps reduce oil and other residues from building up on your face. The cleaner your face stays, the less likely your pores are to appear enlarged.
- Set your pores free!
Always, always, ALWAYS remove your makeup at the end of the day. Makeup that is left on or used heavily can do a great deal of damage to your skin. One of the best ways to avoid enlarged pores is to remove your makeup before bed or a workout. Exercising with makeup on can really do damage because sweating enlarges your pores and can trap makeup within. Give your skin a much-needed break by going a day or two without makeup on the weekends or anytime you’re just lounging around the house.
- Still need some help?
There are other ways to minimize the look of your pores. Methods like creams that include caffeine, a DD cream, or other topical creams prescribed by your dermatologist can reduce the look of pores if a daily routine just isn’t enough. Other options like a Glycolic Acid Peel or laser treatment can also help your face appear smoother and more even.
