As you hit your 30s, it’s time to sit back and reevaluate your skincare. The skincare routine you used in your teens and twenties (cleanser, toner, moisturizer – repeat) many no longer work for skincare in your 30s.
Now is time to stop and take a good look at what your skin; chances are it may have shifted from where it used to be just a few years ago. What once was oily may now be dry or combination type skin, which requires a whole new daily regimen. Aside from an overall change in your skin type, there may be more subtle adjustments like fine lines appearing where it was smooth, or darker pigmentation may be starting to pop up (yes, even in your 30s!).
Here are a few tips on keeping your skin looking fresh and vibrant in these strange times.
Cleanse
Continue to cleanse your skin much as you would at any other time in your life. However, now it’s more vital than ever to get off all the grime and makeup from the previous day, and go to sleep with a clean, moisturized face. Avoiding harsh acne products is also a good idea – opt for spot treatment of breakouts instead. Even though your skin may be transitioning because of your hormones, environment, stress, or any other number of causes, you don’t have to let it get the better of you.
Sleep
While passing a few short hours off as a full night’s rest may have been okay in your 20s, it just won’t cut it as you ease into your 30s. A full 6 – 8 hours is required to help keep your body and skin healthy. There’s a reason it’s called “beauty sleep.”
Sunscreen
If it’s been said once, it’s been said a million times (mostly by us) – wear sunscreen. However, when applying sunscreen now, be sure to cover not just your face but anywhere exposed to the sun in order to stave off potential skin darkening and signs of aging. Pay special attention to the hands because the thin skin covering them is especially susceptible to the sun’s harsh rays.
Serums and Creams
Now is the time to invest in a good eye cream and moisturizer for your face. Focus especially on the eyes with an effective eye cream that protects against wrinkles with ingredients like retinol or peptides. A good eye cream should generally reduce the look of fine lines, crow’s feet, puffiness, and aging.
